Vertebrate Animals User Training
The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (NRC 2011) and the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching (FASS 2010) require that the ISU IACUC provide adequate training for anyone or using or caring for live vertebrate animals for teaching or research at ISU.
Types of Training
Depending on the type of research and the status of the individual, general training is accomplished through CITI, Comevo, or in-class:
- Training for Laboratory Animal Users
- Training Agricultural Animal Users
- Training for Field Animal Users
- Training for IACUC Members
- Zoonosis and Working Safely with Animals Training
In addition, protocol-specific training provided by the PI and additional training by the AV or REC at the request of the PI may be required.
Please note completed IACUC required courses are valid for five years, after which individuals must either take the appropriate refresher course or retake the basic course to meet training requirements. IACUC may require additional training prior to the expiration of the current training.
