Bloomington School District #87
District 87 supports research conducted by the University. The following describes the procedures and conditions for conducting a study in the district. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
For permission to conduct research in District 87, researchers first submit a formal proposal (abstract, purpose/problem, short literature review, detailed methods section, references, instruments or materials) and University IRB forms to the Assistant Superintendent for review and approval. All research proposals shall comply with Board Policies 7.015 and 7.350 as well as all applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including the Illinois School Student Record Act and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Priority is given to 1) projects conducted by District 87 employees, 2) research that takes a minimum of in-class student and teacher time, 3) research that aligns to District 87 goals, or 4) research tied to grants related to the district. The district will provide only directory information for contact information and does not allow videotaping to be used for research. The researcher agrees to keep the name of the district, schools, and individuals confidential (" central Illinois district"). Demographic information should be kept general so readers cannot determine the district. Once the study is completed, the researcher sends a copy to the Assistant Superintendent.
* District 87 will not send out surveys to students or parents/families on behalf of the researcher but will post the option of participation through their school's online backpack.
