Fiscal Agent Duties
ISU Policy 7.1.38 defines the responsibilities of a fiscal agent of an account. In the context of a sponsored program, the fiscal agent monitors program expenses, submits invoices and requests for payment, and prepares financial reports for the restricted account(s) associated with the sponsored program.
Common choices for fiscal agent are the principal investigator (PI) or the PI’s department head. Please note that some departments have the policy that the chair or director should be the fiscal agent for all sponsored programs. For large projects, it may make sense to have a project manager be the fiscal agent.
