Cost Sharing/Matching
Cost sharing is any project cost not reimbursed by your sponsor, and is funded by Illinois State or third party resources.
Illinois State discourages cost sharing unless it is required by a sponsor. When cost sharing is planned, your fiscal agent needs to get approval from your department chair and college dean in writing.
During the development of your proposal, please identify which specific type of cost share you will be providing:
Mandatory Cost Sharing
Mandatory cost shares are not paid by your sponsor and are required as a condition of the award. Request for proposals will tell you the specific amount of cost share needed to be considered for funding.
Voluntary Committed Cost Sharing
Voluntary committed cost sharing is pledged on a voluntary basis and included in the proposal or awarded budget by your fiscal agent.
Voluntary Uncommitted Cost Sharing
Voluntary uncommitted cost sharing are costs not required by the sponsor or included in the award budget.
