Patent Process

Patents are used to grant innovator rights to new research discoveries or innovations.

Innovation Disclosure Form

Research and Sponsored Programs encourages faculty, staff, and students to submit any innovation in your field. A team of professionals will review your disclosure to create a plan of how best to support your innovation.

Innovation Screening Assessment

All innovation disclosures will undergo a screening assessment by the office of Research and Sponsored Programs.  The Office works directly with experts on campus and around the country to understand the potential impact your innovation could have in society.  This assessment is collaborative and you will be consulted as the screening is completed.  Our goal is to help get your ideas noticed.

Innovation Protection

The intellectual property committee will present their recommendation to the associate vice president for research and graduate studies, who will determine if Illinois State will pursue patent protection and commercialization efforts.

For additional information, review the full intellectual property policy at Illinois State.
