The State of Illinois typically does not provide funding for basic research projects. Most of the State funding supports sponsored projects such as program evaluations, curriculum development and/or review, staff development, training, STEM Initiatives, etc. Some State projects are competitive research projects, but others are allocations based upon existing working relationships PI's have with agencies. As PI you will be allocated funding for a sponsored program rather than requesting a specific amount to complete the work.
If a state agency opens a competition, those applications will use Cayuse SP (Sponsored Projects) for the internal process to document the proposal. Many State applications still require hard copy mailings which could add an extra day to the submission process.
