Internal Grants

The programs listed on this page are intended to support and recognize the research efforts of tenured and tenure-track faculty. When exploring these opportunities, keep in mind that the term "research" is broadly applied; it includes traditional research, creative expression, and all other forms of scholarly activities. See Criteria for the Evaluation of Scholarly and Creative Productivity for additional information.

Cross-Disciplinary Grant Development Program

Note that due to budget constraints, funding levels have been decreased and faculty salaries are no longer an eligible expenditure.

The Cross-Disciplinary Grant Development Program is intended to provide the resources needed to develop competitive external grant proposals for research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. One to two awards of up to $10,000 are made during each of the fall and spring award cycles. Application information can be found on the Review website when proposal submission windows are open.

New Faculty Start-up Support

Faculty members in the first or second year of a tenure-track position at Illinois State University, and who have received less than $10,000 in startup funding from their college and/or department, are eligible to apply for up to $3,500* in start-up funds. The purpose of this program is to provide resources in support of faculty members' research, scholarship, and creative endeavors as they begin their career at ISU. Specific guidelines and application information is available at the University's Review website. *The support will be $3,500 in the 2016-17 academic year. This amount varies each year depending on the amount of indirect costs collected by the University. The amount will likely be adjusted downward in the 2017-18 academic year.

Proposal Development Travel Grant

The Proposal Development Travel Grant is intended to enhance the competitiveness of grant proposals by providing travel support funds to faculty or staff wishing to meet with agency program officers or collaborators at other institutions. Travel to meetings, workshops, etc. is not eligible for support. Travel support is limited to $1,000 (as reimbursement of allowable costs), and only a limited number of grants are available each year. Applications are accepted continuously through the Review website.

Publication/Exhibition/Open Access Grant

Matching funds of up to $200 per faculty member is available to defray publication costs, exhibition fees, and open access fees. Applications are accepted throughout the year and awards are made on a quarterly basis (while funds remain). Specific guidelines and application information can be found on the Review website under "Ongoing Programs".

University Research Grant (URG)

The University Research Grant (URG) program is an internal grant program funded by the University and administered by each individual college. Consult your college's website or contact your College Research Coordinator for program details.
