The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (NRC 2011) and the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching (FASS 2010) require that the ISU IACUC provide adequate training for anyone or using or caring for live vertebrate animals for teaching or research at ISU.
Depending on the type of research and the status of the individual, general training is accomplished via the following:
In addition, protocol-specific training provided by the PI and additional training by the AV or REC at the request of the PI may be required. PIs must also complete Annual Face to Face training conducted by the IACUC Chair or designated representative.
Completed IACUC required courses are valid for five years, after which individuals must either take the appropriate refresher course or retake the basic course to meet training requirements. IACUC may require additional training prior to the expiration of the current training.
